Troubleshooting
No TV guide data, or the wrong programmes
An empty guide and a guide full of wrong programmes are different faults with different fixes. The first is usually the source; the second is almost always name matching.
Last updated
Start at Settings › TV guide. That screen reports the outcome of the last run, and it decides which half of this page applies to you:
- TV guide updated on with a recent date — the fetch worked. Your problem is matching, further down.
- TV guide update failed on with a reason — the fetch did not work. The table below covers the reasons.
- Nothing at all — no update has been attempted yet. Press Update TV guide and watch.
When the update reports a failure
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Unable to reach the TV guide server. | The address could not be contacted. Check the URL, and check whether it loads in a browser on the same network. |
| TV guide update timed out for … | The server answered too slowly. Common with large files on a slow host; try again at a quieter hour before changing anything. |
| No TV guide data available for … | The source was reached and returned nothing usable for that playlist. This is the source's limitation, not a fault here. |
| Not enough memory to load the TV guide. | The file is too large to parse on this device. Lower Past days to keep EPG. |
| TV guide for … is too large for this device. | The same problem, named per playlist. A guide covering two weeks of several thousand channels will do this to a television stick. |
| EPG processing failed: … | Data arrived but could not be read. Usually a source serving something that is not valid XMLTV, or a compressed file the server described wrongly. |
| Unable to update TV guide for … | A per-playlist failure with the reason appended. Other playlists may have updated fine. |
| A count of playlists that failed, with a reason after it | More than one source failed in the same run. Fix them one at a time, starting with the one you actually watch. |
Memory failures are worth taking seriously
The default Past days to keep EPG is 7. On a Fire TV Stick or an older box with a large guide, dropping it to 1 or 2 is often the difference between a working guide and no guide at all. All you give up is scrolling the grid back to see what aired last week.
When the update succeeded and the guide is still empty
This is the most confusing case and the most common. The app fetched data, read it, and then found nothing in it that corresponds to your channels. Nothing announces that, because from the app's point of view the update did exactly what it was asked to.
Guide data identifies channels by an identifier, and your playlist has to use the same one. When a playlist and a guide come from different places, they frequently do not agree: one calls a channel by a code, the other by a display name, and no match is found.
What to check, in order:
-
Is the guide pointed at the right playlist
EPG source on the playlist itself decides which data that playlist uses. A source attached to the wrong playlist produces exactly this symptom.
-
Does the source cover your channels at all
A guide for one country will not carry listings for another country's channels. If you added a source you found rather than one your provider gave you, this is the likely answer.
-
Is it only some channels
Partial coverage is normal and is not a fault. Most sources carry the main channels and skip the rest.
-
Try your provider's own data first
An Xtream Codes panel usually serves guide data through the same API, matched to the same channel identifiers, which removes the matching problem entirely. That is the cleanest fix when it is available.
Setting up the TV guide goes through source configuration properly, including which field to use and what a good source looks like.
When the listings are on the wrong channel
One channel showing another channel's programmes means it matched, and matched the wrong entry. Two channels with similar names, or a source using a naming scheme close to but not the same as your playlist's, will do this.
There is no per‑channel override in this build. You will see an Assign EPG row in the channel menu, and it is one of the rows that is laid out but not yet connected, so it will not help you. The remedies that do work are both about the source:
-
Use your provider's own guide data
An Xtream Codes panel usually serves listings through the same API that serves the channels, keyed to the same identifiers. When both halves come from one place, mismatching stops being possible. This is the fix, not a workaround.
-
Or find a source that matches your playlist's naming
If you are stuck with a separate guide, the one that agrees with your playlist's channel identifiers is worth more than the one with the most listings in it. Two sources for the same country can behave completely differently on the same playlist.
Judge a source by whether your channels have listings, not by how large it is. A guide covering ten thousand channels of which none are yours is worse than a small one that matches.
When the guide is stale rather than missing
Programmes that were correct yesterday and are now wrong by hours or days point at the update schedule rather than the data.
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Update interval, hours | How often the guide refreshes on its own. The default is 24, which suits a source updated daily. |
| Update on app start | Refreshes every time you open the app. Reliable, but it makes launching slower. |
| Update on playlists change | Refreshes when you add or edit a playlist, which is when the old data is most likely to be wrong. |
| Update TV guide | Runs it now. The progress line names each playlist as it goes. |
| Clear TV guide | Throws away everything stored, so the next update starts clean. The right move when data looks corrupted rather than merely old. |
Wrong by exactly one or several whole hours is a different thing again: that is a time zone difference between the source and your device, and it is a property of the data. A source that publishes correct times for your region is the only real fix.
Starting over
When the guide is in a state you cannot explain, Clear TV guide followed by Update TV guide rebuilds it from scratch. It touches only guide data. Playlists, favourites, groups and key assignments are stored separately and are not affected.
If a clean rebuild still produces nothing, the source does not carry your channels, and the next step is a better source rather than another setting.
